Ahmed Hassan: Toronto Eaton Centre Shooting Victim (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Toronto police have identified Ahmed Hassan as the man killed in the Toronto Eaton Centre shooting. Police suspect the 24-year-old Toronto resident had gang ties, although they will not confirm whether the shooting was related to gang activity, according to the Globe and Mail.

Det. Sgt. Brian Borg told reporters Sunday afternoon the investigation "clearly suggests that this is a targeted shooting and not a random act of violence against the members of the general public," CBC said.

The shooting began around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the downtown Toronto mall's food court. In addition to Hassan, it left seven injured, one of whom police suspect may also have had gang affiliations, the National Post reported.

Toronto police announced Sunday they believe they know the shooter's identity, but haven't released more information, Canadian Press reported.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford promised the suspect would be apprehended in a statement on his Sunday afternoon radio show.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we will catch the person responsible for this horrific, cowardly crime," he said, according to "We have the best police service in the world -- and they will follow every lead, and track this thug down."

He urged witnesses with pertinent information to contact police at 416-808-5200 or Toronto Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
