Millwood had allowed just one walk in six innings. He came out to start the seventh inning and threw one warmup pitch. As he started into his motion for a second, Millwood stopped himself from throwing realizing something was not right. Manager Eric Wedge and trainer Rick Griffin came out to the mound and after a brief conversation with home plate umpire Brian Runge, Millwood walked off the field. He was replaced by left-handed reliever Charlie Furbush.
Millwood threw just 68 pitches and struck out six. It was the second time this season he had carried a no-hitter at least five innings. He threw a complete-game two-hitter at Colorado last month.
