We reached out to our friends at the Historica-Dominion Institute about our #LoveCanada project and they graced us with a song!
Sung to the tune of "These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things" (with humble apologies to Julie Andrews)
Coffee from Timmies and Frenchmen on ice skates
Hockey in all forms and poutine on large plates.
Accessible healthcare, Shatner when he sings,
These are a few of our favourite things!
The Famous Five and heading true North-ward,
Railways and Rockies and time that is standard.
Freezing cold winters, and "never-quite" Springs,
These are a few of our favourite things!
Obsessive politeness, colourful Northern Lights-ness,
Acceptance, affection and all-human rights-ness.
Riel, Sir John A, A.G Bell when he rings,
These are a few of our favourite things!
When the snow blinds
When the salt stains
When the Black Flies bite
We simply remember our favourite things....
And everything is all alright!
(Eh?)
The Historica-Dominion institute is a non-profit dedicated to greater understanding of Canada's history and heritage. You might know them better as the people responsible for those iconic heritage minutes. Jeremy Diamond, director at the Historica, is also a Huffington Post blogger.
In case you missed it here's our list of 25 reasons why Canada rocks. Sadly we haven't set it to music:
Your turn! Tell us why you think Canada is great. Is it a photo of your favourite camping spot, a Canadian you really admire, our weird obsession with hockey and cold weather? We're looking for your responses on Twitter with the #LoveCanada tag, Facebook, in the comments and via e-mail. We'll be collecting the best responses and featuring them on our site in the coming weeks.
