Wounded Warriors to hold fishing derby in Nipawin, Sask to raise PTSD awareness

NIPAWIN, Sask. - Combat veterans from across Canada and the U.S. will invade a small town in Saskatchewan this summer — to fish.

The group Wounded Warriors says it will hold a fishing tournament in Nipawin in late August to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder and homelessness among veterans.

About 60 veterans are expected for the three-day event, which will run from Aug. 24 to 26.

The group's director, Blake Emmons, says the original idea started with him and his friends sitting around a campfire talking about freedom.

Now he says that instead of just a few Vietnam veterans involved, there are dozens of people taking part.

The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses are supporting the vets by donating $10,000 to the tournament.
