Surrey toddler killed in alleyway accident

A two-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a car in Surrey, B.C., on Wednesday night.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Blair McColl said the little girl was on a scooter in the alley behind her home on the 13400 block of 83A Avenue when she rode into a moving car around 8:45 p.m. PT.

"The child was taken by air ambulance to Children's Hospital in Vancouver and approximately an hour after that we were advised she had passed away from her injuries," said McColl.

McColl says speed and alcohol do not look like factors and police are not planning to charge the driver.

The child's name was not released by police.
