Toronto Shooting Near Lawrence and Allen Road Area Leave 1 Dead

TORONTO - Toronto police have identified a man killed on a school playground Thursday, but say there is no connection with a mass shooting in the city earlier this week.

Daniel Davis, 27, was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds shortly after officers arrived at the playground (in the Lawrence and Varna Drive area) around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police say there is nothing to suggest Davis's death is linked to Monday's shooting at an east-end block party that killed two people and injured more than 20 others.

Police say they are looking for suspects in his death.

Davis is the city's 30th homicide victim this year, and the fourth shooting death in three nights.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man was charged Thursday evening with first-degree murder in Tuesday night's shooting death of a 42-year-old man at a soccer field in the city's west end.
