A quick look at the London Olympics

LONDON - The London Olympics officially kick off Friday. Here's a quick look at the 2012 Summer Games:

Canadian team: 277 athletes, 93 coaches and 137 mission staff.

The goal: To win enough medals to finish among the top 12 countries.

Last time: Canada won 18 medals in Beijing, three gold, nine silver and six bronze.

Best hopes: Dylan Armstrong, shot put; Catharine Pendrel, mountain bike.

On TV: The Olympic broadcast media consortium, led by CTV and Rogers Media Inc., will produce over 5,500 hours of material for TV, smart phones, tablets and computers.

Welcoming the world: The Olympics will attract more than 10,500 athletes from 205 countries competing in 302 events in 26 sports. About 20,000 media have been accredited for the Games.

Big ticket: It's estimated the total Games cost will be about C$14.5 billion.
