Olympic weightlifting champion Andrei Aramnau withdraws from London Games with injury

MINSK, Belarus - Belarus Olympic weightlifting champion Andrei Aramnau has pulled out of the London Games because of an injury.

Local media says Aramnau has pulled a muscle in his thigh during a competition in Belarus last weekend and will need two months to recover, the athlete was quoted as saying, adding that "the Olympics are now over for me."

Aramnau won gold in the 105-kilogram category at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He also holds a world record in that category. He ran into legal trouble shortly after his Olympic triumphs and has served a two-year ban from competition. He had been training hard during the recent months to defend his gold at the London Games.
