Brazil's eventing team suffers setback as rider and all reserves unable to compete

LONDON - Brazil's Renan Guerreiro has been withdrawn from his country's Olympic eventing team after his horse, Kenny, was found to be suffering from a leg injury.

The team will be short one competitor when competition starts on Saturday, since its three reserves have been banned.

Brothers Manuel and Gustavo Pagoto, the first two reserves, were suspended in April after their horses tested positive for illegal substances. Third reserve Carlos Paro was also banned after the horse he originally enrolled, Political Mandate, was swapped in 2011 for British-bred Alvescot Prada.

The International Olympic Committee took issue because the new horse had not been on the original entry list.
