Miroslava Knapkova of Czech Republic wins Olympic rowing gold in women's single sculls

WINDSOR, England - Miroslava Knapkova of the Czech Republic won gold with a dominant victory in the women's single sculls at the Olympic rowing regatta on Saturday, adding to the world title she won last year.

Knapkova outclassed her rivals to win by two lengths in a time of 7 minutes, 54.37 seconds. Fie Udby Erichsen of Denmark took a surprise silver and Kim Crow of Australia won bronze.

It is the Czechs' first gold in rowing since the country gained independence in 1993.

Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus was bidding to win a medal at a sixth straight games but placed fifth.
