Thieves steal Australian Olympic athlete's running spikes from training centre

LONDON - British police say thieves have done a runner — with an Australian sprinter's kit bag and shoes.

Kent Police said Saturday that two thieves had stolen athlete Andrew McCabe's training bag, which contained his running spikes, team uniform and cellphone.

The 21-year-old is scheduled to compete in the 4x100m relay next Friday.

Police said the bag was snatched Friday from a training centre at a school in Tonbridge, southern England, about 62 kilometres (38 miles) from London's Olympic Stadium.
