At least seven people have died as a result of a shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis. near Milwaukee. The suspected gunman is among the deceased, police say.

When police arrived, the gunman fired at an officer and was reportedly "put down" by him. The officer was shot in the process, but is expected to survive. More reports of injuries have also surfaced.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

While earlier reports suggested more than one possible gunman, police have not identified another, CNN says.

Photos from the scene depict officers surrounding the temple, as well as witnesses reacting to the tragedy.
