Canada's Best Bathroom: Who Is King Of Thrones?

Rustic hardwood floors, solar powered lighting, and expensive wallpaper sound like the makings of a high-end renovation. But they’re also features shared by the finalists vying to be honoured as Canada’s Best Restroom.

The five nominees are pretty pimped out. The lobby washrooms of the Georgian Court Hotel in Vancouver boasts chandeliers, marble counters, and wood grain textures. The ladies’ loo is conveniently stacked with hairspray, body lotion and mouthwash.

Toronto’s This is London Club has hardwood floors, oversized paintings and luxurious seating. As one of our editors eloquently put it, “It’s suitable for Marie Antoinette to squat.”

Finalists were chosen for cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. It’s unknown if the restrooms were judged on toilet seat comfort.

A public street bathroom in Victoria made the shortlist for the “optimal balance of personal privacy and public access.” Rounding out the Top 5 are a vocational school just outside Montreal and a Toronto restaurant.

This is the third year for the contest sponsored by Cintas Canada, an Ontario company that makes uniforms and provides restroom cleaning and supplies and document shredding to businesses. (Wow, that’s a diversified company.)

You can vote online for the winner, which will be announced this fall.
