Record number of candidates in Quebec election

A record number of candidates are running in the Quebec election.

Following the close of nominations on Saturday, the province's chief electoral officer announced there are 894 candidates in all for the 125 seats in the Quebec national assembly.

That's 243 more hopefuls than in the last election, and the highest number of people on the ballot since Quebec was divided into 125 ridings.

Eighteen parties are presenting candidates, but only the Liberals, the Parti Québécois and the Coalition Avenir Québec have candidates in all ridings.

Women make up 28 per cent of the candidates, which is three per cent less than in the last election.
