Man dies after being stabbed in the neck in east Hamilton

Police are investigating a fatal stabbing Friday night in the east end of Hamilton.

According to reports, a man who had been stabbed in the neck collapsed on a porch at 92 Barnesdale Blvd. and died at the scene.

“It was like a warzone,” said Tony Candelori, who lives next door to the house where the man was found.

Candelori told CBC Hamilton that around 7 p.m. Friday his daughters came running into his bedroom to tell him there were fire trucks outside.

“So I came running out thinking it was a fire,” he said. “I saw all the commotion and looked over to the left and noticed they were doing CPR on the victim.”

“He got stabbed in the neck and his wife was on the porch here freaking out.”

Candelori said the man was at the end of the street when he was stabbed but staggered about 10 houses to the home next to his because he knew the people living there.

Police had the home cordoned off Saturday morning. The entire yard is walled off with police tape, and blood stains can be seen on the porch of the home.

Police are at the scene investigating. This is the sixth homicide in Hamilton this year.

Friday's stabbing happened almost right next to a former 7-Eleven that was gutted in an arson on Aug 5.

“It's really bizarre,” Candelori said. “Generally it's a pretty good neighbourhood.”

Candelori has lived on Barnesdale Avenue for three years. In less than a month, a man died in an arson and another was stabbed in the neck, just steps from his door.

“Hopefully that's it for this neighbourhood,” he said. “That's enough drama.”
