Pedestrian struck, killed by Via train east of Toronto

A pedestrian was struck by a Via train that was headed toward Toronto on Monday evening.

Via spokesperson Elizabeth Huart said that the collision involved Train 65 that was en route from Montreal to Toronto.

The incident took place on a section of track between Belleville and Cobourg, just after 8 p.m. ET.

Police, paramedics and firefighters attended the scene, as did a coroner.

It was not immediately clear when the train will be cleared to move. Some trains were moving past the scene of the collision.
