Premier angry motorists won't slow down in construction zone where woman died

REGINA - Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says he is angry that motorists continue to drive too fast through a construction zone where a young woman was struck and killed.

Ashley Richards, 18, of Lakeside, N.B., was working as a flag person on a highway crew when she was hit Friday near Midale (MY'-dale), southeast of Weyburn.

Wall says he has asked his justice and highways ministers to work with police to improve worker safety in construction zones.

The premier says the woman's co-workers have already made some suggestions.

Since the collision, RCMP have issued tickets to motorists for not slowing down in the construction zone on Highway 39.

RCMP said charges are pending against the driver of the SUV in Friday's collision, a 44-year-old man. (The Canadian Press, CJME)
