TRAYTOWN, N.L. - Some residents of a small town in eastern Newfoundland say the community is under siege by black bears.
Traytown is north of Terra Nova National Park, about a three-hour drive northwest of St. John's.
At least 15 bears have been trapped near the town so far this summer, and the provincial government is warning residents to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, more than 100 complaints have been called in to wildlife officials.
Local residents say the town had no problem with bears until the local landfill closed.
Problems with bears have also been reported in nearby Glovertown and Clarenville.
