King Kong climbed down from his tower in the middle of downtown Calgary, grabbed his beautiful maiden and proposed.
Taking part in the Easter Seals Drop Zone event in Calgary on Thursday, Derek Todd, dressed as the gigantic love-forloned gorilla, rappelled down the 30-storie Sun Life Plaza's west tower in Calgary and proposed to his awaiting, and unaware, girlfriend Shaunna Undseth.
Undseth gasped as Todd, still wearing the gorilla suit, kneeled and popped the question in front of a loud, cheering crowd.
To Todd's relief, she said yes.
"The drop was fine," said Todd moments later.
The proposal, "that was more intimidating," he said.
Todd was one of more than 120 participants who dressed up in costumes and rappelled the 375 ft. from the lip of the top of the tower to the ground below.
Thursday's event was the eighth annual and is a fundraiser for the Easter Seals, which surpassed its fundraising goal before the rappelling even began, said the charity's CEO Susan Boivin.
"We aimed to raise $250,000, which was quite a bit more than last year ... but some time last night we were already in the $252,000s, and we're still building," she said.
Funds raised will go towards helping children, youth and adults with disabilities live and work independantly in the community, said Boivin.
