Nova Scotia Liberals call on government to drop HST from funeral costs

HALIFAX - Nova Scotia's Opposition Liberal party plans to introduce a bill that would remove the provincial portion of the HST from the cost of funerals.

Liberal Leader Stephen McNeil says even though death and taxes and inevitable, the two shouldn't go together.

McNeil says the bill is aimed at removing some of the financial pressures families face during a difficult time in their lives.

A recent report says the average cost of a funeral in Nova Scotia is $10,495.

Opposition bills are rarely made law.
