Backstage, Lepore said she'd been upset that nobody seemed to be talking about the election.
"Four years ago, politics was all people were talking about here," she said. "Now nobody is thinking about the election. So I decided, even if you don't support who I'm supporting, at least pay attention to it!"
On a less political note, Lepore delivered a colorful and snappy Spring 2013 collection, dominated by a brilliant shade of green she calls clover. "Greens were just feeling so fresh to me this season," she said.
The clover shade appeared in everything from jackets to tops to trousers to dresses to swimsuits, in solids and in prints. It was often accompanied by black and white, either in stripes or in checks.
And so a summery black-and-white checked top with sexy lacing across the back was accompanied by pants in a clover floral print, and a big green leather handbag, with matching chunky shoes. Or a checked jacket covered a clover applique top, with a clover tweedy skirt completing the look. That same tweedy fabric came in an appealing halter dress with a flouncy skirt.
Other popular colours in the collection were coral and sky, with a dose of black thrown in there too — as in a black jumpsuit with a sheer, filmy top, with the breast pockets strategically placed.
Lepore was clearly in the mood to dance after her show, which she did, actually, to the live music — a rarity at runway shows — by the New York band Brazilian girls.
