HOUSTON, B.C. - An Alaska man has been seriously injured in a bear attack in northwestern B.C.
The 65-year-old was attacked Tuesday evening while fishing at a popular spot on the Morice River south of Houston, about 60 kilometres south of Smithers in the Bulkley Valley.
Conservation officers say the bear was with a cub and the attack appears defensive.
The man suffered severe head and facial injuries as well as gashes and puncture wounds to his upper body.
He was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver where he remains.
A campground not far from the scene of the attack has been closed and officials are urging residents to stay out of the area until further notice. (CFTK)
