HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia Supreme Court has ruled in favour of three community groups who opposed the City of Halifax's decision to sell a shuttered downtown school to a developer.
The city says in a news release today that the decision by Judge David MacAdam makes clear that Halifax failed to follow proper steps in the sale of the St. Patrick's-Alexandra School site.
The city also says the court decision means that the sale to Jono Developments won't proceed.
A spokeswoman for the city says that the regional municipality will "take time to thoroughly review" the decision before seeking direction from Council on its next steps.
Three community groups — the Richard Preston Centre for Excellence Society, the Micmac Native Friendship Society, and the North End Community Health Association — sought a judicial review after the sale to the developer was approved.
The development company had responded to a request for proposals for the sale and redevelopment of the site.
The community groups submitted separate proposals that were evaluated alongside the developers' plans.
