Iran has issued a warning to its citizens travelling to Canada.
That country's foreign ministry warned of increasing 'Islamophobia' and 'Iranophobia' in Canada.
"There have been cases of arrest and expulsion of Iranian expatriates under various pretexts and Iranians are deprived of their basic rights to continue with their ordinary activities, including the right to access their banking accounts and do ordinary transactions," reports IRNA, that country's state-controlled news agency.
Tehran also said that Iranians in Canada have also been murdered but not investigated in any significant way by Canadian police.
The report also mentioned the "Canadian government’s double-standard about human rights."
On Wednesday at the United Nations, Canada's diplomats walked out of a speech delivered by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Diplomacy between Canada and Iran have been strained in recent weeks. Earlier this month Canada unilaterally expelled Iranian diplomats from Canada and closed its embassy in Tehran.
In July, Canada's Foreign Affairs ministry lashed out at Iran for allegedly trying to recruit Iranian-Canadians and also threatening expats in Canada.
“Iranian-Canadians have rejected the oppressive Iranian regime and have chosen to come to Canada to build better lives. The Iranian Embassy should not interfere in their choices. Canadian security organizations will act to prevent threats and intimidation of Canadians,” a spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird told the National Post.
