N.S.-based Stream call centre in Glace Bay to receive up to $2.6 million

GLACE BAY, N.S. - A Nova Scotia Crown corporation will provide up to $2.6 million to a U.S.-based call centre firm if it creates 400 jobs in Glace Bay over the next five years.

Nova Scotia Business Inc. said today that it has signed a payroll rebate with Stream Global Services to expand its hiring in the Cape Breton community.

The deal means that the company can receive payroll rebate for a maximum of 400 jobs over the time period.

Payroll rebates are paid annually once an employer has achieved a hiring target set out in a deal with the agency.

A spokeswoman for the agency declined to comment on what the minimum number of jobs per year would be under the terms of the deal, citing commercial confidentiality.

Stream currently employs several hundred technical support, customer service and management personnel in Glace Bay.

Stream Global Services has about 50 centres worldwide, including several in North America.

The company has been operating in Glace Bay since 2001.
