The E. coli scare may have an industry reeling, government’s stuttering and consumers skipping the meat aisle.
But one cheeky and creative Albertan sees the scare as a source of inspiration, morphing a bumper sticker, once as ubiquous in Alberta as the pick-up trucks they were often attached to, into an image symbolizing the beef fatigue many Albertans are feeling.
After years of Albertans standing proudly by their world-famous beef, despite health scares, closed borders, recalls, mad cow and E. coli, Robert de Gruchy couldn’t help but go where many of his fellow Albertans would not dare.
“I couldn't help but notice that the pointed lines on the biohazard symbol matched the silhouette of the bull horns,” said de Gruchy, who goes by the pen name Grooch.
“And then I remembered the citizen response bumper-sticker from the last beef scare. 1+1= drawing.”
