Muskrat Falls Protest: Nalcor Granted Injunction Against Innu Activists

CARTWRIGHT, N.L. - Newfoundland's energy utility has been granted a provincial Supreme Court injunction that stops an aboriginal group from blocking construction at the Muskrat Falls hydroelectricity site.

The injunction against the NunatuKavut Community Council and some of its members orders protesters to stop interrupting the work at the Nalcor site.

Nalcor also says the injunction prohibits delaying suppliers, employees, or contractors from exiting or entering while work is ongoing.

The energy corporation says the injunction is against the council and its president Todd Russell.

The Innu council and its president have set up pickets saying the community is opposed to transmission lines going through its territory without consent.

Russell has said his attempts to enter formal negotiations with the province and Ottawa have been refused.
