Vancouver officers injured in late night crash

Two Vancouver police officers suffered serious injuries after their unmarked car drove into an East Vancouver property late Wednesday night.

Flora Ramos, who lives in the house with her family said her quiet home was thrown into chaos at about 11:30 p.m.

“It was scary. We thought it was like a bomb explodes," Ramos said.

“I heard a bang and my children were screaming and I don't know what happened. So we ran up and down to see if my children were okay.”

Neighbour Fina Dario said the car was covered in a cloud of smoke.

“The car was there, landed right in front of my gate."

Vancouver police said the officers inside were responding to a 911 call about men breaking into cars.

The officers lost control on East 41st Avenue near Nanaimo Street, skidded across the road, jumped the curb and slammed into the fence, breaking a heavy concrete pillar.

“Both officers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries,” said Const. Brian Montague. “The driver has since been released and the passenger remains in hospital recovering.”

The police investigation into the crash continues.
