Air Canada Name Game: Carrier Turns To Facebook For Name Of 2013 Leisure Airline

Canadians Get Their Chance To Name An Airline

What's in a name?

Well, in the case of Air Canada, it's the first impression the airline will make once the company unveils its low-cost carrier next summer. While it was announced last month that the budget airline would be fully owned by Air Canada, it would carry a different name from the country's largest airline — a task the company has recently turned to Facebook to enlist the creative minds of Canadians.

Aptly titled, "Air Canada's Name Game", contestants can submit their two cents on what the budget carrier should be named come June 2013 for the chance to win one of three $1,500 travel gift certificates. No word on how the company will select the winners but entries will be judged on "brand positioning, values and personality traits being considered for the new airline," according to the terms and conditions on the contest's Facebook page.

Also worth mentioning is that all suggestions — good or bad — become the sole property of Air Canada.

The company's budget airline is set to make several spots in the Caribbean, Europe and the United States using two Boeing 767s and two Airbus A319s from Air Canada's existing fleet for the time being, according to Scott Deveau of the National Post. Afterwards, the number of planes is set to expand to 20 Boeing 767s and 30 Airbus A319s, each modified to fit about 20 per cent more passengers, reports the Toronto Star.

For now, Canadians looking to get in on the naming action have until October 21 before the contest ends. Those looking for some inspiration or to see what others have possibly submitted can check out the slideshow below.
