Calgary-area teacher charged with sex assault against student

AIRDRIE, Alta. - Police say a southern Alberta high school teacher faces two sexual assault charges related to an alleged encounter with a 17-year-old girl.

RCMP say the accused is a teacher at a school in Airdrie, just north of Calgary, and the girl involved is one of his students.

Police are not releasing the teacher's name.

The principal of the school in the Rocky View division has written a letter to parents informing them of the charges.

It says the accused has been suspended.
