Toronto, get ready to say "ommmmm" in a whole new way.

As announced this morning, the city will welcome the first Toronto Chopra Yoga Centre, a 6,500-square-foot space dedicated to yoga, meditation and wellness at some point before January 2013. The centre will located in the city's Harbourfront neighbourhood.

“We’re very excited about bringing Chopra Yoga to Toronto, which has a vibrant community of wellness educators and individuals seeking a deeper understanding of mind-body health,” said Dr. Deepak Chopra in a press release.

Chopra, who is trained as a doctor, is known across the world for his teachings on meditation and the healing power of yoga as related to health, going beyond the spiritual aspects to tie it to physical changes.

As Chopra himself wrote on The Huffington Post last year, "Many people report that yoga gives them an overall feeling of wellbeing. But research shows that it may also help alleviate specific kinds of pain, including migraine headaches, lower back problems, arthritis and pain during childbirth."

The only other Chopra Yoga Centre in North America opened in Vancouver in January 2012, an ideal fit for "yoga-crazed Vancouver," according to CTV News.

For Torontonians, however, the focus is more on stepping out of "busy city lives," according to the press release, with classes that include everything from "Candle Light Meditation" to "Yoga Barre."

Membership is now open for the studio, starting at $153 per month — more information can be found at choprayoga.com/toronto.
