Kristopher 'Tray' Guenther has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of a 20-year-old woman in Calgary.

Police identified the woman as Lacey Jones-Mcknight, and say the death is Calgary's 14th homicide of the year.

The mother of the young woman, Shelly Jones, said she worried about her daughter's safety and was sleepless for weeks as claims she went to police repeatedly for help, The Calgary Sun reports.

What I do know is the system failed her,” Jones told the Calgary Herald.

Police in Calgary say the man tried to hang himself from a bridge after his girlfriend was killed.

Police found the man hanging and rescued him, then they found the vehicle containing the body of a woman in her early 20s.

Early indications suggest the events were related to domestic troubles, police added.

A Twitter account named @NSD_CYCLONES with the user named Tray tweeted, "Good bye Lacey I do love you but tonight u will be gone 4 good heart break #shots #snow #loveyou #goodbye."

Investigators are looking into the comments but cannot confirm if they were related, the Calgary Herald reports.
