Police in Lethbridge warn of scam involving man claiming to be officer

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - A phone scam involving someone claiming to be a police officer is making the rounds in southern Alberta.

Lethbridge police says the caller claims he's a member of the force and then tries to solicit funds.

A resident called police to complain that he's been called more than six times in the past few days.

The caller provided a fake name, fake badge number, and told the person he had won $2 million from a lottery and that he had been defrauded.

The caller said in order for the man to get the money, he had to pay $35,000.

Police say this is an advance payment fraud and remind the public to never send money to strangers and always be wary of prize schemes.
