Four men who failed to return Sunday night after hiking in northern Cape Breton were found safe and sound by searchers Monday morning.
The men went into the woods Saturday night and planned to spend a night there before returning on Sunday, said Leo Lefort with the Cheticamp Search and Rescue team.
Lefort said heavy rains in the Pleasant Bay area on Saturday flooded a brook on part of the popular Polletts Cove trail, temporarily blocking the hikers' path.
Six members of the Cheticamp Search and Rescue team found the hikers shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday, said Lefort.
Cheticamp RCMP had said they were uncertain whether the four hikers were lost or simply waiting for daylight to emerge from the woods in Polletts Cove, in Inverness County.
The ages and names of the hikers have not been released.
