FormalWill.Ca Toronto Subway Ad: Is This New Toronto Transit Ad Sexist?

Attention Getter: Do You Find This Ad Offensive?
Ronak Ghorbani

During a commute, you're likely going to see things you probably didn't want to see, and we've accepted that. But when those things are ads, you start to think about them a little more.

This week, we came across an advertisement for Canadian will firm FormalWill.ca on a subway train in Toronto. The ad depicts an older white male (who looks uncomfortably thrilled) and a younger woman posing as a stereotypical gold digger, holding him and his cash. The ad reads, "Don't let your money fall into the wrong hands. Complete your Canadian Legal Will affordably in minutes."

The Advertising Standards of Canada says advertisements cannot condone any form of discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, sex or age — which makes us wonder if this ad has crossed the line.

In 2011, the Toronto Argos football team had a controversial ad replaced on the subway after a city councillor complained that it may promote domestic violence, according to the Toronto Star. Earlier this year, an ad for an Islamic Centre offended some riders because of its "there is no god but Allah," quote, according to the Star.

If you are offended by any ad on the Toronto subway, you can make a formal complaint or suggestion on the TTC's website.

What do you think: Is this ad offensive or just attempting to be funny? Let us know in the comments below:
