Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he's ready to run for re-election

CALGARY - Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he will run for re-election next fall.

He says he spent a lot of time talking to family, friends and Calgarians over the past weeks before making his decision.

Nenshi is in his final year of his first term as mayor.

He first ventured into politics in 2004, running unsuccessfully for a seat on Calgary's city council.

His 2010 mayoral campaign win was viewed as a breakthrough for the use of social media as an election tool as he placed an emphasis on using social sites such as Facebook and Twitter to promote his platform and engage voters.
