EDMONTON - Two deaths last July in Edmonton swimming pools has led to more stringent safety protocols by the city's lifeguards.
They include increased pool clearing drills, better signage and a move to enhancing safety equipment.
The recommendations came in a report compiled by the Lifesaving Society.
City spokeswoman Linda Cochrane says she doesn't know if the measures would have made a difference had they been in place last July.
But she says all lifeguards try to convey the message that everyone should have a healthy respect for water.
It had been 22 years since the last death in an Edmonton pool.
