A B.C. retiree has been found dead near Puerto Vallarta in Mexico after being reported missing last month, Foreign Affairs Canada has confirmed.

Ron Lloyd MacKintosh, a Comox, B.C.-area man, was found tied to a tree on Tuesday morning. He had recently moved to the coastal town of Barra de Navidad, Global News reported.

A municipal patroller found MacKintosh's body about one kilometre near the turnoff to the town of Jaluco, said the Guadalajara Reporter.

MacKintosh was last seen on Oct. 21 at 5:15 p.m. in Melaque, a town about 10 minutes' drive from Barra de Navidad. He reportedly dropped off a friend in a 2008 Jeep Patriot but never arrived home. His girlfriend reported him missing the next day.

He was believed to have a dog with him at the time, but neither the pet nor his Jeep have been found.

MacKintosh had recently retired from his job at Koers and Associates Engineering in Parksville on Vancouver Island and moved to Mexico, Global News reported.

Foreign Affairs Canada is providing consular services to MacKintosh's friends and family, CTV reported.

Melaque is the same town where Robin Wood, a 67-year-old man from Salt Spring Island, B.C., was killed after a home invasion in January.
