More evidence of a cooling housing market in Canada was provided, as a report by the federal mortgage insurer states that the pace of home building in October is slower than expected by economists.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Thursday there were 17,507 actual housing starts last month, which is down almost nine per cent from an annual rate recorded in September.

Broken down seasonally-adjusted urban starts decreased 12.3 per cent in the Prairies, 1.5 per cent in British Columbia, 6.4 per cent in Ontario, and 16.8 per cent in Atlantic Canada.

While the housing market maybe cooling off, there are some homes in Edmonton that could make up for more than a few new average-sized homes.

With nanny apartments, glass elevators and Italian countryside inspired spaces, these homes are anything but ordinary.

Here's a look at some of the most expensive homes on the market right now in Edmonton, giving some heat to the cooling house market.
