Man faces attempted murder charge after shooting on Vancouver Island

QUALICUM BEACH, B.C. - The Mounties are recommending charges of attempted murder after a shooting on Vancouver Island after someone shot at a house from outside.

A news release says police responded to a report of gunshots early Saturday morning at a house in Qualicum Beach, about 60 kilometres northwest of Nanaimo.

A 22-year-old man was hit in the leg with a bullet and is expected to recover, while a 44-year-old woman also inside the home wasn't hurt.

About 90 minutes later, police pulled over a vehicle on a local highway and arrested a man without incident.

RCMP say they've recommended two counts of attempted murder, and the man will remain in custody at least until his next court appearance on Tuesday.

Police say they believe a suspect went to the house of his ex-girlfriend and shot at the home with a high-powered rifle before leaving in a pickup truck.
