Toronto police are investigating a vandalized Canadian war memorial in the city's west end. The bronze Victory Peace monument at Coronation Park was defaced a few hours after Remembrance Day services concluded.

According to CP24, a citizen noticed the words, "Canada will burn praise Allah" written on the memorial late Sunday. Authorities were notified and city officials were on the scene later that night to clean the graffiti.

The message appears to be written in permanent black marker, and in all capital letters. A city official told CityNews that the ink was absorbed into the granite due to the composition of the memorial, which was created in the mid-1990s by sculptor John McEwen.

CP24 reports the police do not have any suspects at this time, and ask witnesses to call and submit tips to Crime Stoppers.

After the story broke, users took to Twitter to express their outrage about the vandalism. A Torontonian who identifies as @allfallible was the first to tweet about the offensive message, writing to CTV anchor Paul Bliss, "Someone wrote "Canada will burn praise Allah" on the monument in Coronation Park at Lakeshore/Remembrance Dr. Who to call?"
