OPP probe deadly crashes in Burlington, Hope Township

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a pair of fatal crashes which occurred just hours apart on Saturday night.

Shortly before midnight OPP officers were called out to a stretch of the Queen Elizabeth Way in Burlington after a multi-vehicle collision had occurred in the Fort Erie-bound lanes at North Shore Boulevard.

Police say that a driver lost control of a vehicle and struck a cement barrier, an event that triggered the multi-vehicle collision.

While most reported injuries were minor, an 83-year-old passenger was transported to a Hamilton hospital where she died.

Police say the victim’s name will not be release until next of kin is notified.

Pickering man killed

Hours before, the OPP were called out the scene of a fatal head-on crash involving a transport truck and SUV that collided in Hope Township.

The crash on County Road 28, near Dale Road, left one person dead. The OPP were called at about 7:15 p.m.

Police say the SUV was headed south on County Road 28 when it veered in front of the northbound transport truck.

The SUV driver was thrown from his vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene. On Sunday afternoon, police identified the victim as 43-year-old Glen G. Chiasson of Pickering.

The transport truck driver was not injured in the crash.

County Road 28 was closed between Dale Road and Fourth Line until late Sunday morning.
