Talk about a string of bad luck one man faced on an Alberta highway this weekend.

According to Mayerthorpe RCMP, a two men were traveling southbound on Highway 43 shortly after sunset Sunday night when they hit a deer with their car. The pair stopped and got out of the car to move the carcass from the road.

As one of the men was getting back into the car, he was struck by a southbound semi-trailer, which kept going.

Amazingly, the man survived after his friend helped move him from the highway and called for an ambulance. He was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton and is being treated for a broken leg, hip and pelvis.

RCMP say the only details they have about the hit-and-run semi is that it was pulling a white cargo trailer wth orange and red lights down the side.

Mayerthorpe is approximately 130 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
