Star Trek, Collectibles Vancouver Auction Valued In Millions

Able Auctions

A Vancouver auction house is putting rare Star Trek trading cards up for bid at what may be the geekiest auction ever this weekend.

One of the biggest items at the Able Auctions' sale on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 is a set of 1967 Leaf Star Trek trading cards. They're supposed to be among the first Star Trek cards ever produced, according to a Star Trek wiki page.

Able Auctions warns that these aren't the "extremely rare" North American versions, but the "still very rare" European versions. "These appear to be the real deal worth quite a bit of money," says its website.

The whole collection of more than 100,000 items is valued at about $2.5 million, reported The Province newspaper. The B.C. collectors have asked to remain unidentified.

In addition to the trading cards, Star Trek bubble gum, a Star Trek commemorative book and a Heineken ad featuring character Mr. Spock are also available

For non-Trekkies, the auction also features five-cent Superman trading cards, the 100th Flash comic, and hockey cards of players including Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Manon Rheaume.

Sports memorabilia and more will be auctioned Saturday. Comic-related items will be on the block Sunday. Bidders can also get in on the auction online.
