The Painful Side Of Alberta's Afghanistan Legacy
CP

The list of soldiers who called the province home and who died in the Afghanistan conflict is a long and painful one.

It includes the first ever female combat soldier killed in battle on behalf of Canada. It also includes infanteers, tankers and combat engineers. The list is also made up of regulars and reservists – teachers, medics, students.

Some of them died in combat, others in accidents, while others at the hands of suicide attacks.

In total, 158 Canadian Forces members have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002.

All in all, 16 Albertans have given their lives fighting for Canada in that conflict. Many others remain there today, as part of a training mission.
