Overcrowding cancels some non-surgical elective procedures in Regina hospitals

REGINA - Some non-surgical elective procedures are being cancelled at two Regina hospitals.

The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region says the move is necessary because of extreme overcapacity at the hospitals.

It adds that no surgeries at the Regina General and Pasqua hospitals have been cancelled.

Spokesman Michael Redenbach says the health region is working to bring patient numbers down so that procedures such as endoscopies can resume later this week.

Capacity levels at both emergency departments reached very high levels on Monday.

The health region says there is no one health problem causing the surge in patients.
