Suspected gas leak triggers Port Moody school evacuation

About 500 students at Aspenwood Elementary School in Port Moody were taken out of class today because of concerns about a possible gas leak.

The principal decided to evacuate the school around noon after two students passed out during choir practice.

School district spokeswoman Cheryl Quinton says all the children are fine and under staff supervision, but parents are being asked to come to the school and pick up their kids from the gymnasium.

She says preliminary tests don't show any air quality problems and this early dismissal is purely precautionary.
