KITIMAT, B.C. - Two people involved in a head-on crash on Highway 37 north of Kitimat, B.C., are recovering in hospital thanks to the efforts of witnesses who helped them out of their flaming car.
RCMP say a car and a pickup truck slammed into each other in slushy conditions about 22 kilometres north of Kitimat on Wednesday night.
Police say when the car burst into flames on impact the two young men inside were pulled out of the fiery wreckage by those who saw the crash.
The driver of the truck and the two men inside the car — all residents of Kitimat — were taken to the hospital in Terrace and then the 24-year-old driver of the car was transferred to the burn unit at Vancouver General Hospital.
RCMP Const. Leslie Smith says the driver of the truck was treated and released from hospital.
Smith commends both the actions of those who helped pull the men to safety and the efforts of an off-duty nurse from Kitimat who gave the injured medical care at the scene.
