Calgary police have shut down traffic in a northwest neighbourhood and are asking residents to stay in their homes while they deal with an armed man in a barricaded residence.

Calgary Police Service tactical unit, crisis negotiation team and patrol officers are on the scene in the 7500 block of 34 Ave. N.W.

They have shut down vehicle and pedestrian traffic on 34th Avenue between 71st Street and Bowcliffe Crescent.

Police say there will be more information available later this morning.

UPDATE: According to new reports from multiple outlets, this situation has been resolved peacefully. The man is in custody and traffic is moving again.
