Google Top Retail Searches 2012: Canada Loves Kijiji, eBay and Craigslist, Zellers Not So Much

Online classified ads site Kijiji was the most searched-for retail term in Canada in 2012, according to the latest edition of Google’s annual survey of top searches.

Two other online ad sites — Craigslist and its Quebec equivalent, LesPAC — also made the top ten list, as did Walmart and Costco.

Zellers, long a Canadian retail mainstay now winding down operations, didn’t make the list, nor did some of the more buzzworthy Canadian retail brands, such as Lululemon.

Google didn’t put out a list of top retail searches for Canada in 2011, so we can’t compare how retailers did from year to year. But we’re willing to make one prediction for 2013: Next year, this list will include Target Canada, which opens its first Canadian locations in the spring.
